��Ʒ̽�� Selected to Evaluate Small Modular Reactor Option in Norway

CHANTILLY, Va., December 11, 2024 — ��Ʒ̽�� (NYSE: AMTM) and Multiconsult Norge AS were selected by Halden Kjernekraft AS to evaluate the potential for building a small modular reactor (SMR) in Norway, helping Halden municipality to decide whether nuclear power can meet advanced energy needs.

The two companies will carry out an assessment of potential suppliers of equipment and services within Norway and from abroad, as well as reporting on technical standards, environmental impact and other key aspects of any construction program.

Halden Kjernekraft was set up by Norsk Kjernekraft, Østfold Energi and the municipality of Halden, a town in southeast Norway close to the Swedish border, to investigate the construction of a nuclear power plant using SMR technology.

“Working with Multiconsult, we will draw on our extensive knowledge of SMR technology and nuclear supply chains to provide an objective, factual review and assist the municipality of Halden in making a well-informed decision as to whether nuclear power can contribute to solving its future energy needs,” said Andy White, ��Ʒ̽�� Senior Vice President, Energy & Environment International.

CHANTILLY, VA, December 4, 2024 – ��Ʒ̽�� (NYSE:AMTM) announced today that West Valley Cleanup Alliance, LLC (WVCA), a BWXT Technical Services Group-led joint venture that includes Jacobs Technology, an ��Ʒ̽�� company, and Geosyntec Consultants, Inc, has been awarded the West Valley Project Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition contract. ��Ʒ̽�� will bring advanced environmental capabilities to safely clean up the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) in western New York state.

The scope of this contract includes disposal of low level, radioactive and transuranic waste; soil remediation; decontamination and decommissioning of underground high level waste tanks, facilities and any material used in connection with the project; and eventual transport of solidified waste to a federal repository for permanent disposal.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) single-award IDIQ contract has a maximum value of up to $3 billion over a 10-year ordering period. Performance of task orders issued before the end of the contract ordering period shall not exceed five years beyond the end of the contract ordering period.

The West Valley Demonstration Project is an approximate 150-acre area located 35 miles south of Buffalo, New York. The site is owned by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and is home to the only commercial spent nuclear fuel reprocessing facility to operate in the United States. ��Ʒ̽�� and its legacy companies have supported the DOE’s office of Environmental Management WVDP cleanup program since 1982.

CHANTILLY, VA., November 20, 2024 — The Kingdom of the Netherlands has selected ��Ʒ̽�� (NYSE: AMTM) to evaluate options for expanding the country’s nuclear power capacity. As part of its strategy to reduce carbon emissions and strengthen energy security, the Dutch government has announced preliminary plans to build two new pressurized water reactors by 2035 with a total capacity of up to 1650 Mwe, enough to meet up to 13% of the country’s electricity needs.

“This important contract advances our growth strategy by taking us into a new country and plays to many of our strengths,” said Andy White, Senior Vice President of ��Ʒ̽�� Energy & Environment International. “We are technology agnostic, so we are able to apply our experience of nuclear new build programs in the UK, Poland and the United Arab Emirates, along with our extensive technical knowledge to assess the compatibility of reactor designs within the specific Dutch context.”

The Dutch government’s Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth has received technical feasibility studies and market consultations from three potential reactor vendors.

The ministry has appointed ��Ʒ̽�� to carry out a full review of this information, to provide independent advice on the technical and market viability of constructing two nuclear power plants, and to deliver advisory input to enable an informed decision on design and financing.

The feasibility study review will be led by ��Ʒ̽��’s subject matter experts, supported by CMS Lawyers, PA Consulting and ENCO nuclear consultants.

Currently, the Netherlands has the lowest generating capacity of any nuclear-powered nation in Europe. Its sole 482-MWe pressurized water reactor at Borssele, a coastal town in Zeeland, was built by Siemens and has been operational since 1973.

CHANTILLY, VA., October 30, 2024 — ��Ʒ̽�� (NYSE: AMTM) has been selected as consultant for the first-of-a-kind dismantling of steam drum separators in Units 1 and 2 of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) in Lithuania, an important step in decommissioning what was once the country’s largest generator of electricity.

The seven-year contract, estimated by INPP to be worth €5.5 million in revenue and to be implemented under International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Yellow Book Conditions, will be administered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and funded by European Commission grants.

��Ʒ̽�� will provide consultancy services to support the INPP’s Project Management Unit (PMU) and carry out the duties of FIDIC Engineer for the dismantling contract.

“We will deploy our extensive nuclear decommissioning and waste management experience from the UK, France, Czechia and Slovakia to this ground-breaking project,” said Andy White, who leads ��Ʒ̽�� Energy & Environment International.

��Ʒ̽�� will help INPP to manage the removal of the Steam Drum Separators – large drums installed over the graphite core to divert steam to the turbines. The PMU will oversee the design and safety justification for dismantling and fragmentation of the drums and associated equipment, which are located in the plant’s radiologically contaminated primary circuit. The ��Ʒ̽�� team will also be available to support further stages of decommissioning at INPP.

“The FIDIC service provider, ��Ʒ̽��, is a significant contributor to the dismantling of the steam drum separators. Their large international experience both as a FIDIC engineer and while working in various similar nuclear power projects will be a contributory factor to the success of the project’s joint implementation,” said Linas Baužys, Director General of INPP.

INPP’s two RBMK-1500 reactors generated up to 70% of Lithuania’s electricity before the plant was shut down in 2009. ��Ʒ̽��’s heritage firms began working there more than 20 years ago, helping to deliver a New Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility and other facilities required for decommissioning.

Earlier in 2024, the DOE that the contract had been awarded to H2C, which is a joint venture led by a BWXT subsidiary and includes partners ��Ʒ̽�� and Fluor. A protest for this award was recently dismissed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. The contract is a single-award, Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract that has a maximum value of $45 billion over a 10-year ordering period.

“��Ʒ̽�� and its partners are ready to get started on this important cleanup contract for the DOE. The scope of the ITDC includes operation of complex Hanford tank farm facilities and eventual operation of the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant in order to complete the tank closure mission. Hanford is a 580-square-mile site located in southeast Washington state, established in 1943 as part of the Manhattan Project to produce plutonium for national defense. It has 177 underground tanks holding approximately 56 million gallons of radioactive waste.

The contract was awarded to Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure, LLC (H2C), which is a joint venture led by BWXT Technical Services Group, Inc., and includes ��Ʒ̽�� and Fluor Federal Services, Inc. The end state closure, single-award, Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract has a maximum value of $45 billion over a 10-year ordering period.

The contract includes operation of tank farm facilities including single-shell tank waste remediation and closure, design, construction, and operation of waste receiving facilities and pretreatment capabilities. Capabilities include operation of the Waste Treatment Plant and core functions such as project management, environment, safety, health and quality, security and emergency services, and all business performance requirements.

The waste resulted from the production of nuclear fuel for the site’s reactors that once produced plutonium for the U.S.’ defense program.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards ��Ʒ̽�� team $95.5 million contract to Decommission and Dismantle SM-1A Reactor

CHANTILLY, Va., October 19, 2023 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Baltimore District has awarded a contract to safely decommission and dismantle the SM-1A Reactor Facility to a team including ��Ʒ̽��. The standalone C-contract contract, with an estimated value of $95.5M over a 6-year ordering period, will integrate and leverage proven innovations to dispose of both hazardous and radioactive materials.

“As a global leader in environmental solutions, our experience in nuclear remediation is extensive,” said Mark Whitney, President of ��Ʒ̽��’s National Security Group. “��Ʒ̽�� will provide the Army Corps of Engineers with advanced engineering capabilities and solutions that have been successful at some of the most challenging environmental cleanup projects in the world.”

Under this new contract, the work will be performed at Fort Greely, Alaska and will include planning, permitting, and engineering, site preparation, demolition and disposal of facilities and components from the defueled nuclear reactor, related wells and utility corridors, and other ancillary facilities. The contract also includes remediation of contaminated soils, a final status survey, and site restoration.

The contract was awarded to the joint venture APTIM-��Ʒ̽�� Alaska Decommissioning, LLC (A3D). Other members of A3D’s team include Heritage – M2C1 Joint Venture, a HUBZone small business location in Delta Junction, AK; Lynden Logistics; Brice Environmental; Oak Ridge Technologies; ReNuke Services; AECOM Technical Services; and Delta Junction Medical.

“Our recent experience performing reactor decommissioning at Fort Belvoir and major U.S. Department of Energy sites will aid in the completion of the work safely and effectively at Fort Greely,” said Jim Blankenhorn, ��Ʒ̽�� Senior Vice President of Environment & Security. “The expertise gained over decades of similar projects builds the Army Corps of Engineers’ confidence in our team to address the environmental challenge at Fort Greely.”

The SM-1A reactor achieved criticality in 1962 and was shut down in March of 1972, followed by the removal and disposition of the spent nuclear fuel in 1973. The primary mission of the single-loop, 20.2 megawatt-thermal pressurized water reactor was to establish a cold-weather nuclear power plant to support power to Fort Greely, with a secondary mission to study the economics of operating a nuclear electric power plant as compared to operating a conventional oil-fired system in a remote location.

An on-site kickoff meeting at Fort Greely will in late October 2023, paving the way for our preparatory work at the site. The team is targeting a full mobilization to the site by mid-2024. CHANTILLY, Va., July 17, 2023 – ��Ʒ̽��, a market leader in environmental engineering solutions, announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded a team led by the Company a contract for the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant Decontamination and Decommissioning in Piketon, Ohio. In addition to managing the demolition and disposal of gaseous diffusion plant facilities, the ��Ʒ̽��-led team will integrate and utilize mature, proven technologies to progress water treatment and soil remediation.

The contract was awarded to Southern Ohio Cleanup Company, LLC (SOCCo), which is a joint venture led by ��Ʒ̽��, and includes Fluor and Cavendish Nuclear.

The single award Master Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity contract under the End State Contracting Model has an estimated value of $5.87B, over a 10-year ordering period, and performance of task orders issued up to an additional 5 years. Work to be performed under this new contract will include, but not be limited to demolition and disposal of facilities, process equipment, related process buildings, and other ancillary facilities. The contract also includes remediation of contaminated soils and groundwater, and disposition of uranium material.

GERMANTOWN, Md., Dec. 6, 2022 – ��Ʒ̽��, a leading provider of advanced solutions and services to federal governments, is pleased to announce that Loren Jones, a well-respected executive from the nuclear industry, has joined the company as Managing Director and Senior Vice President of the International Business Line for its National Security Group.

He will also carry on our commitment to our existing customers.”

In his new role, Loren will lead the nuclear, security and environment business for government and commercial clients internationally, with an immediate focus in Europe. He will report to Mark Whitney.

Loren is an experienced senior executive with proven success operating high performing businesses, including establishing, building, and transforming engineering-focused organisations for value creation and sustainable growth. He has extensive experience in the delivery of major national and international nuclear, environmental and defence programmes.

Prior to joining ��Ʒ̽��, Loren was the International and Business Winning Director for Cavendish Nuclear in the UK, where he had accountability for business in Japan, Canada, United States, and other international markets. Loren also led Business Winning across the whole of Cavendish Nuclear, significantly increasing their bid success rate during his tenure. He also held responsibility for managing strategic projects and developing ongoing relationships with customers, industry bodies and partners.

Loren previously held positions with Hyde Group, Nuvia, and Westinghouse Electric Company. He is the Chair of the Northern Nuclear Alliance in the UK – an extensive Membership organisation covering the full supply chain of the nuclear sector – and a board member of the Cheshire and Warrington Local Economic Partnership.
